Capt. Ned Librock – Catching Dreams Charters
My name is Ned Librock, and I reside in Pendleton, New York (Niagara County) with my wife Sharon. We are blessed to have two adult children and five grandkids all living within ten miles of our home. We are also blessed to live in such a wonderful outdoor arena as Western New York for fishing, hunting and general outdoor activities.
My adult life has been spent as a business executive for both a private and public company as well as a charter boat Captain. I hold a Masters Degree from SUNY Buffalo in Economic Anthropology, and currently am the Founder and President of Catching Dreams Charters, Inc.
Catching Dreams Charters is a New York State 501(c)(3) not for profit. We provide fishing therapy to pediatric oncology patients. We offer half day fishing trips to families with a kid battling cancer. Many times the kids face isolation, physical maladies associated with cancer treatment such as hair loss and weight gain, and high anxiety both during and after treatment. Think of our fishing therapy as a respite – what might be considered a normal day on the water. Fishing therapy is a great psychosocial therapy. At the end of the day all kids receive a rod, reel and tackle box.
We started eight years ago with three kids in the program and last year we had well over one hundred inquiries and the list continues to grow. We operate out of Western New York, Rochester, and Syracuse. We have the Albany and Long Island areas on our radar screen and hope to be able to support each area in the coming years.
Cancer at any age is terrifying, but childhood cancer is simply cruel.
